Solid Soap Making Process in the Household Hygiene Dept

The training session for the Household Hygiene Production department by the Resource Person, Mrs. Nwaogwugwu, focused on enhancing skills for producing solid soap. Its goal was to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the saponification process, ensuring they can consistently produce high-quality, effective soap.

Key Training Areas:

Raw Material Selection & Preparation: Participants learned to handle essential ingredients like oils, lye, and additives (fragrances, colorants) with precision to ensure successful soap reactions.

Safety Protocols: The session emphasized using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe handling of caustic substances like lye, as well as proper ventilation, storage, and emergency procedures.

Saponification Process: Step-by-step training covered mixing lye and oils at correct temperatures, with a focus on reaching “trace,” where the soap begins to thicken.

Molding & Curing: Techniques for pouring soap into molds and ensuring the correct curing time, which influences hardness and longevity.

Quality Control: Methods for checking the soap’s pH and other quality parameters to ensure it’s safe for household use.

Outcomes:

The training successfully combined theory with hands-on practice, allowing participants to make small batches of soap. The department is now equipped to apply these techniques in full-scale production, ensuring consistency and quality.

Next Steps:

A follow-up session will assess the department’s initial production runs and explore potential optimizations for cost-efficiency or improved product features, like enhanced lathering.@Roxbourg Institute of Social Institute
